About Miami Correctional Facility:

Miami Correctional Facility is located on the former Grissom Air Force Base, on the southeast corner of the Grissom Aeroplex, just south of Peru, Indiana, in Miami County. This facility is classified as a medium/high maximum security correction facility, housing a maximum of 3,188 offenders. At the DOC, we promote public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. Salary Information:

This role starts at a base salary of $28,652.

About the Job:

In this role, you will serve in an administrative support capacity to the Director of Correctional Intelligence by investigating and monitoring reported misconduct by staff, offenders, and others associated with the facility. You will report to the Director of Correctional Intelligence and perform duties under minimal supervision.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Investigate incidents/accidents involving staff, offenders, or others associated with the facility.
  • Investigate correspondence between incarcerated persons and staff.
  • Review questionable correspondence for compliance to Indiana codes and handles final disposition of mail.
  • Occasionally facilitate criminal investigations involving outside agencies.
  • Gather evidence, and recover and accurately label items considered evidence for future use in internal/external cases.
  • Complete and provide reports, information, and criminal intelligence to outside agencies when appropriate.
  • Follow Department of Correction policies and facility directives.
  • Work with department management and supervisory personnel to resolve security concerns and problems.
  • Recommend necessary security changes to the Supervisor.
  • Conduct inspections of facility to determine whether security procedures are in place and effective.
  • Assure compliance with applicable regulations and ACA standards.
  • Assist with developing, implementing, and monitoring facility security procedures.

What We're Looking For:

  • Must test negative on all drug screenings.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required training and certifications.
  • Specialized knowledge of the principles, techniques, and terminology of current investigative practices.
  • Specialized knowledge of security procedures.
  • Above average knowledge of departmental policies and procedures and all applicable State, Federal, and local laws relative to corrections, including Indiana codes and Department of Correction policies and procedures.
  • Above average knowledge of due process, criminal, and civil liability.
  • Ability to remain unbiased while investigating incidents.
  • Working knowledge of Alco-Sensor, filed drug test kits, fingerprint and forensic evidence equipment and the Dictaphone Pro-Log Communications System.
  • Ability to complete investigations as required, which may include bending, reaching, and searching, which may be physically taxing. Searches may include the person and/or property of both offenders/staff, as needed.
  • Above average knowledge of conflict resolution and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Above average knowledge of safety hazard precautions.
  • Ability to observe staff and offenders and accurately recall details in order to write correct, concise reports.
  • Ability to recognize and report overt basic symptoms of illness, dysfunctional, and/or inappropriate behavior.
  • Ability to present evidence at hearings.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.This role provides supervision for offenders and requires a high level of judgment and care.
