About Miami Correctional Facility:

Miami Correctional Facility is located on the former Grissom Air Force Base, on the southeast corner of the Grissom Aeroplex, just south of Peru, Indiana, in Miami County. This facility is classified as a medium/high maximum security correction facility, housing a maximum of 3,188 offenders. At the DOC, we promote public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. As the model of best correctional practices, we strive to return productive citizens to our communities and inspire a culture of accountability, integrity and professionalism.

Salary Information:

This role starts at a base salary of $28,652.

About the Job:

In this role as a Correctional Coordinator, you will be responsible for following post orders, maintaining order, and supervising and controlling offenders and their activities. You will work on an assigned shift in a specific post under the general supervision of a Program Director. You will also maintain the security of the unit as well as the safety of staff and offenders while ensuring daily activities and programs proceed on schedule.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Maintain order and security of offenders in the facility. Assist supervisor in appropriate administration of security-related operations (key control, count, shakedowns, searches, inventory, equipment maintenance, radios, security systems, etc.) as evidenced by maintaining written records and reports on offender movement, progress, and violations of policies and procedures. Follow and ensure compliance with established security procedures.
  • Perform various data entry to include notes in SAMS, logging group hours based on involvement in CLIFF groups and counsel provided to offenders in order to facilitate treatment team plans to aid in the rehabilitation process. Each of these components will assist in providing input into offender promotion boards and assists in identifying offender treatment needs and support treatment programs,
  • Conduct classes to include program orientation, life skills, and treatment groups; oversee CMA, Static Encounter, and 12-step program group meetings as necessary. Remain alert for signs of disorder or tension.
  • Supervise offenders in various work details including both within the facility and outside the facility. Escort offenders both inside the facility and on various trips away from the facility as the need arises.
  • Complete special assignments as required. Take an active part in committee meetings and perform all duties in an effective and satisfactory manner. Complete special projects within assigned deadlines
  • Inspect all cells on a daily basis.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Four (4) years of full-time professional experience in program coordination, development, implementation, or related experience.
    • Substitution:
      Accredited college training may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role provides supervision for offenders and requires a high level of judgment and care.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
